By popular request, we've added our organic Shea Butter to the Natroma website. For years we've loved using thia butter in our balms, soaps and bathing products and recommend this organic botanical butter for use as a moisturiser on patches of very dry skin.
Shea butter comes from the Karite tree, which is native to Africa. Ours is a gently refined certified organic (and cruelty-free) butter, which means it has been filtered and purified so it's a pale cream colour and has a mild smoky aroma. It's a heavy, quite greasy butter so you need to only use a tiny amount and it will easily melt when applied to the skin. Because it initially feels quite greasy, we'd advise that our organic shea butter is best used on dry skin, making it perfect as a natural moisturiser for softening the hands, elbows, knees and heels. It can also be used on the hair, to add moisture to dry ends. All that you need to do, is scrape a small amount of the organic shea butter out of the tin and it will melt on contact with the skin.
Shea butter has an excellent reputation for helping people with dry, cracked skin conditions such as eczema and psoroasis. It's natural emollient qualties help to retain moisture in the skin, making it feel softer and more comfortable. We use this ourselves, and it really helps when eczema patches are feeling itchy and irritated.
Available in 2 sizes: 50g and 100g aluminium tins (coated to ensure the organic shea butter doesn't come into contact with the metal). We hand fill these tins, so the shea butter has not been subjected to any additional heat.
NB: Shea butter contains a substance that is similar to latex, so isn't recommended for anyone who has a latex allergy.
