Rhassoul clay comes from Morocco and is a lovely clay that is suitable for all skin types since it gently soothes and hydrates the skin. Like all clays it absorbs water readily, but unlike other clays it forms a gel-like consistency that is cooling and soothing when applied to the skin. We use rhassoul clay to create bespoke clay masks for our clients during our Natroma Aromatherapy Facial treatments. It is a good choice for soothing a skin break out, or to gently exfoliate the skin. But the good news is that you can now enjoy the same spa-like treatment at home, by mixing your own clay mask!
We supply the clay in aluminium tins (like the ones we use for our balm products). It is available in 30g and 50g sizes. Each tin contains enough clay for several treatments, and we'd suggest the rhassoul clay mask is mixed as follows:
Measure approximately 10ml of our organic hydrolat into a small dish. Using a teaspoon add a couple of small spoonful's of rhassoul clay to the container - keep adding clay slowly and allow it to absorb the liquid. You’ll need to use approximately 5g of clay per treatment. Stir the clay mixture and then leave for 10-20 minutes. The clay should absorb all of the liquid to form a soft paste. If it becomes too thick a small amount of hydrolat can be added. Next add a couple of pumps of the Natroma Daily Cleanser to the mixing container. Mix the clay with the Cleanser, so it becomes paler in colour. You will need to add enough Cleanser to loosen the clay mixture so it will feel comfortable when applied to the face.
You are now ready to enjoy your home facial!
HOW TO ENJOY NATROMA HOME FACIAL TREATMENT:
For a more intensive treatment, we’d recommend that you begin your home facial by applying several drops of our Q10 Facial Oil Serum on to your fingertips. Apply to the face and lightly massage over the skin for a few minutes. Use light gliding fingertip strokes, lightly pat the skin and try small circular strokes, whilst avoiding the delicate eye area. Make sure you do not rub or pull the skin.
Then apply the clay mask using a mask brush or a light fingertip pressure. Apply a generous amount, concentrating on problem areas such as around the nose and chin or any area where you are prone to breakouts. Avoid applying the mask too close to the delicate eye area and lips. Then relax!
We’d suggest that you try to lie down if you can and take a few minutes to allow the mask to draw out impurities, but do not leave on for longer than 20 minutes. The mask should feel cool and soothing. The mask will not dry on the skin, but if the skin starts to feel uncomfortable or there is any irritation, remove straight away.
After a couple of minutes you can also lightly massage through the mask, to gently exfoliate the skin. Do not rub or apply a heavy pressure. Next dampen an organic muslin cloth in warm water, and wring out. Use the cloth to gently remove the mask, making sure not to rub or pull the skin. You’ll need to rinse out the muslin cloth in warm water several times during this process, gently removing the mask in sweeping strokes of the muslin cloth.
Next, sweep a cotton pad moistened in hydrolat across the skin to ensure any clay residue has been removed. It is normal for the skin to be slightly pink after a facial, since the clay treatment and any facial massage stimulates the skin and increases blood flow.
Allow the skin to dry naturally and then to finish, we’d recommend that you apply some of our Natroma Concentrated Moisturiser or Q10 Moisturiser.
We'd suggest that you try to apply a rhassoul mask once a week, but it can be used more frequently as required. Because the mixed mask does not contain any added preservative (other than what's already in our cleanser), it needs to be used within a day or so of mixing. We'd recommend that you discard any unused mask, after 48 hours.
