As a result of the pandemic, we're all still washing our hands more frequently. Please read our blog post on why washing with soap, rather than using hand sanitizers is such a good idea.
Unfortunately we're hearing that this increase in hand washing using cheap soaps is drying out many people's hands. During the pandemic many customers asked us for advice, because they'd noticed the skin on their hands was dry or cracking with sore patches between their fingers. This happens when using harsh hand washes / gel sanitisers since they contain quite harsh ingredients and once the skin is dry it can be become sore and irritated quite easily.
We always recommend that customers keep washing their hands with soap, but try to use soaps that are more conditioning (like a handmade goat's milk soap of course!) since you'll clean the skin just as effectively without stripping away all of the skin's natural oils. Then, regularly apply hand cream or other emollients to try to stop the skin drying out.
When the skin is dry or cracking we suggest that you apply an oil based product each evening, choosing one that contains natural botanical ingredients (ideally natural cold pressed oils and botanical butters) rather than synthetic cosmetic ingredients (which are usually petroleum based) that will sit on the skin rather than sinking in to retain moisture and softness. From our product range, we'd recommend our organic balms. These are very concentrated products containing organic shea and cocoa butters with organic oils and added vitamin E, so you only need to apply a little. They feel quite oily and will need a few minutes to sink in, so we recommend applying them while you're watching TV or before you go to bed. Make sure you won't be handling anything for a few minutes, and you'll notice they sink into the skin after a few minutes and will leave it feeling noticeably softer afterwards.
