Handmade Fused Glass Sun Catchers - Bees, Butterflies and Snowdrops

These larger sun catchers contain bees, butterflies and snowdrop designs.  Every sun catcher is handmade and completely unique, so the colours and lay out of each design will vary slightly from the images shown on this page.  The bees will always have slight variations since each bee is hand cut, painted with glass enamels and then constructed on the glass panel - I've made lots of them, but no two are the same!

Approximate Glass Size:  14-15cm (tall) x 5-6cm (width) x 0.5-1cm (depth) on a thread with faceted glass beads (overall height including glass 25cm).

These are larger pieces of glass so will be heavier than our other sun catchers, and require a secure fixing.  Each sun catcher is supplied on a clear thread so it can be hung on the wall or in a window.

Each sun catcher will be wrapped in tissue and packaged in a matt silver box (lift off lid and white wadding cushioning) to protect the glass during transit

Large Fused Glass Sun Catcher Designs: - flower colours may vary.

A larger image of each design will appear when it's selected in the drop down menu.

Bee Meadow (image 1) -  multi-coloured glass flowers with green stems and leaves with a bumble bee.

Bee Honeycomb (image 2)  - 3 colours of glass cut in hexagons, with a bumble bee and a lilac/purple flower.

Bee Meadow Vine (image 3) - paler glass flowers, vine flower with a bumble bee

Pastel Butterfly Meadow (image 4) - multi coloured pastel flowers with 2 butterflies.

Snowdrops (image 5) - delicate white snowdrop buds emerging through snow

Echinacea Butterfly (image 6) - a butterfly fluttering over echinacea flowers with green leaves (butterfly colours will vary).

Natroma Fused Glass Designs are handmade by Sarah (Natroma's Founder).  I'm not an artist, but I enjoy being creative and working with my hands.  I originally took up glass fusing in 2016 because I wanted my soaps to have their own unique glass soap dishes.  As I've developed my experience and knowledge of working with glass in the kiln, I've started making a wider variety of items.  I love anything that's pretty and decorative (anyone visiting the Natroma shop will know that I love purchasing pretty, sparkly items for our shop!), and fused glass really sparkles and glistens when it's displayed in sunlight.  I've taken inspiration from holistic imagery and the natural beauty in my garden and local countryside, to create a range of small decorative glass sun catchers.

I use a variety of transparent and opaque glass to create miniature scenes, that look beautiful when hung in a window.  I design each piece and hand cut my selected glass into small shapes, and these are constructed into mini scenes.  Sometimes I paint the glass with glass enamels, before adding more glass to add texture.  Each design is fired in a kiln for up to 24 hours reaching temperatures of up to 800C, and I carefully control the firing process so the glass melts and forms a texture before it is slowly cooled.  The final glass pieces are polished and the shiny glass surface is tactile, so you can run your fingers across the surface and feel the shape of the insects, flowers and vegetation.  Each piece is finished by hand, and is threaded onto a strong nylon thread with pretty faceted glass beads.

Each fused glass sun catcher is hand made by me, so it will be completely unique.  There are many designs of these bumble bee and butterfly sun catchers, which are available for inspection in our Stourbridge shop.  For the website, I am making a few of each design, but each piece will have it's own uniqueness.  Each design has been photographed inside against a white background with overhead lights, but the glass colours will vary on different computer screens.  The sun catcher will look brighter once it is hung in a window, and the camera cannot capture the way that transparent fused glass glistens in sunlight.  The images on this page will hopefully give you an idea of the designs, but the item you receive will be a genuine 'one off, and there may be subtle differences compared to what you see on this page.    In particular, the bees will always be unique since they are hand cut, painted with enamels and then constructed on each panel with varying shapes on their wings.  The glass beads are faceted to give a nice sparkle on each sun catcher and may vary in colour and shape.  I hope you enjoy owning these unique sun catchers or perhaps gifting them, as much as I enjoyed creating them.
