Organic hydrolats are produced during the steam distillation of essential oils. These natural flower waters contain water soluble plant extracts making them perfect as natural skin toners. Our organic chamomile hydrolat has a quite earthy aroma which isn't very sweet (this is perfectly normal since hydrolats often do not smell like the flowers of the plant they are distilled from), and is very gentle and skin calming making it suitable for sensitive and troubled skin types. It can be used as a soothing compress, on minor rashes (perhaps after touching stinging nettles), on minor scalds and skin irritations etc.
Please be aware that feedback from some customers is that they dislike the aroma of chamomile hydrolat. We know we're getting this feedback because they aren't very familiar with true steam distilled hydrolats. But we have seen very good results where customers have tried the chamomile hydrolat, since the water soluble parts of the chamomile plant do have soothing properties that suit sensitive and irritated skin. So to prevent any disappointment, we'd suggest that you order this hydrolat if you're interested in the skin-calming properties and are prepared to tolerate the aroma.
We'd describe our current batch of organic chamomile hydrolat as having quite a strong musky herby aroma.
Our pure certified organic Chamomile hydrolat does not contain any alcohol or preservative, so we would recommend it is best stored in a cool, dark place ideally refridgerated. Use within 6 months of opening. Aqua and Anthemis Nobilis - and nothing else.
Our organic hydrolats are available in the following options:
- 50ml blue glass bottle with spray attachment that's great for taking on holiday or to the gym.
- 100ml refill in HDPE white/clear plastic bottle that's great for decanting into your glass bottles.
- 100ml blue glass bottle with a white/silver spray attachment - a lovely blue bottle that's a little cheaper than Miron but can still be re-used by unscrewing the cap and topping up with our refills.
- 100ml Miron violet glass bottle with spray attachment - in our opinion the best way to store hydrolats since the unique violet glass protects the delicate hydrolat from the damaging rays of the sun so will make your hydrolat last for longer even if it's not refrigerated. Remember to keep this bottle (since it was more expensive) so you can keep topping it up with refills, and it's more environmentally friendly!
